Going on vacation, it's a good idea to remember these simple tips:

  • If you are traveling by plane, especially to a distant destination, do not drink too much even if it is free! Water and soft drinks are a better option as alcohol combined with altitude dehydrates you.
  • Alcohol dehydrates you and the sun makes the situation worse. Take a regular break and drink at least one liter of water a day.
  • Do not allow alcohol to lead you into dangerous situations with strangers, in pools, or in unknown places.
  • Combining alcohol with sports, from volleyball to climbing, can lead to injuries. Stay safe! Similarly, night swimming in combination with alcohol consumption is never recommended.
  • If you go out in a car, decide in advance who will drive. The driver of the group will NOT drink alcohol and will be responsible for getting you all back safely.
  • Have condoms with you for safe sexual intercourse.
  • Bars overseas may serve drinks using different scoops, so be careful of your quantities and consumption.
  • When relaxing on the beach, always use sunscreen. The combination of hangover and burn is enough to ruin your vacation.
  • In some countries there are restrictions on alcohol consumption -it may well be prohibited. Before you set off, learn about it and respect the local laws and customs. Apart from being courteous, if you ignore these tips, you may be subject to severe penalties.
  • While you are waiting for your flight at the airport do not drink too much because you may not be allowed to travel.
  • Many insurance companies will not cover you if you have an accident due to excessive alcohol consumption.
  • In most European countries, the BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) limit for drivers is 0.5 mg/ml (but in Sweden, it is 0.2, and in Hungary 0). In the US it is forbidden to have alcohol in your blood if you are under 21 and driving. Don't risk any trouble with the authorities. Make sure that everyone can return safely either with the “group driver” who will NOT consume alcohol or by taxi or public transportation.
